Canoe Safari -The Island Trail

Three night/four day, island-hopping canoe safari through the middle Mana Pools flood plain region of the Lower Zambezi River, camping on selected islands.

Rates


Low Season: US$ 450 per person sharing.
1 Nov - 30 June

High Season: US$ 575 per person sharing.
1 July - 31 Oct


SADC - US$ 475 per person sharing.


Rate includes: All meals, cordials and water.
Complimentary local wine with dinner.

(Additional beverages can be purchased prior to safari start)

Rates exclude: Airport and departure taxes, national park fees,river useage fees,travel insurance and visas.

Note: This canoe safari requires a minimum of 2 participants.


Season: All year round, however, for those chartering in, please discuss this with us prior to your arrival, as some airstrips may be closed due to heavy rains.

 


tStyle of safari: Explorer - Participants set up the their own tents.


Duration: 3 nights, 4 days.

Area: Lower Zambezi River.Chirundu - Chongwe.

Distance: Approx. 76km






Daily Routine


The Zambezi Valley can get hot in the summer months, therefore we prefer to start early, to take advantage of the cool early mornings.The same applies for late afternoons, when tempretures drop again.


Day One


- Meet 10:30am at Chirundu / 11am at Gwabi.

- Guide briefing, followed by a light lunch and canoeing orientation.

- Canoe through to the evening camp, only half-day.

- Canoe approx 14 km to the evening's island stop over and prepare to set up camp.


Overnight at Kakomalala.


tDay Two


Full day canoeing, approx 25km


Canoeing starts early after morning tea / coffee and biscuits. It starts at approx. 6.30am for 7am


We depart Island camp and head downstream for a breakfast stop at approx. 8.30am


Then we continue though to shaded lunch stop from approx. 12.30 – 2:30 out of mid day sun.


Proceed to the mainland fly camp for an overnight island camp.

Overnight at Mtondo Island.



Day Three t


Full day canoeing, approx. 26km.


Same daily routine described as above.


Overnight at Nyamangwe / Fisherman’s Island.


Day Four


Early morning canoeing to take out point approx
5km downstream.



Return transfers:


Road transfer to Gwabi is approx. 3hrs.

Optional: Drop off at the Royal airstrip and 30min road transfer.
Optional: Boat transfer to Gwabi - 1hr 20min.
