Chirundu being a border post with Zambia, is set on the Zambezi River and is a weekend paradise for fishermen. This spot is approximately five hours out of Harare by road or alternatively can also be reached by chartered flight.

Briefed by the guide at about 14h00 hours as to canoeing and
safety procedures, you will launch onto the Zambezi River with our experienced river guides and canoes for 16 kms before stopping
for the night near the Kakomomarara Hills.

After an early morning start, guests canoe to their breakfast site, set
amongst spectacular scenery, thorough the Hurungwe Safari area past the "D" and "E" hunting camps, where the river has steep banks with Ilala Palms and hills on either side.

Game will now have become more prevalent as the trail
approaches the edge of the Mana Pools National Park. The river terraces give rise to differing vegetation. Here buffalo are often sighted and occasionally, lion.Having covered 22 kms this day,
the trail stops to overnight at Lone Acacia.

Today guests canoe from Lone Acacia into Mana Pools National Park where the river breaks up, giving guests the opportunity to explore the many river channels, abundant with birdlife and game. You may see elephant and buffalo.

Riverine birdlife is wonderful, with ducks, gulls, herons, terns and the territorial malachite Kingfisher among many others.

The distance traveled on this day will be 24 kms.

This is the last day of the Kakomomarara Trail which ends at Nyamepi Camp in Mana Pools National Park. The morning is spent exploring the wonderful channels near Mana.Buffalo on islands, elephant bulls and wonderful birdlife can be sighted here.

After canoeing for 15 kms, guests arrive at the camp approximately mid-morning where the trail ends. You will begin your return journey out of the Zambezi Valley.Game viewing is often the best on your way out.

* Kakomomarara is the African name meaning "Hill of Rags" which was named after a battle between Chief Kanyemba and the Dandora people many years ago. It is today a fishing camp.
