Marula Canoe Tour - Kariba to Chirundu

2 nights of Unspoilt Wilderness and Wildlife Canoeing through the Kariba Gorge.

Some start from Luxury safari Lodges in Mana Pools but most start and end in Kariba.

Minimum Age Limit: 14 years (no maximum)
Departs Tue / Sat / Sun

Time allowed on the day of departure for last minute drinks shopping.

Passport: These must not be taken on the river but can be left in the office with other valuables.

Explorer Safaris: Expeditionary style trips.These are semi participatory with 2 qualified canoe guides who will take care of all the cooking, washing and other camp chores.

Luggage allowance of 10 kgs on the river.


Note: The rate does not include National Park Fees which are payable direct to Parks.

Animals: Elephant, buffalo, impala, waterbuck, hippo, crocodile and plentiful birdlife.Lion, leopard and painted hunting dog are more difficult to see.

Road transfers to and from the safari from Kariba - e.g. from Chirundu / to Mana Pools.

All meals.

Drinks: Cordials not minerals.There is no alcohol, other than wine with dinner each evening.

All canoeing equipment: The canoes are two-man Canadian-style canoes, and the paddles are American Carlisle paddles.

All camping equipment: Two-man dome tents, sleeping bags, liners, mattress, mosquito net, fly sheet, ground sheet and tarpaulin (in case of rainy weather).

Day One : 18 kms

Last minute shopping, before we set off for the river and our canoe safari.At the start point luggage is portaged into the gorge and we will walk 1.5 kms down to the river.This is quite a long, steep descent.

After a briefing session we start paddling at 11h00 until a stop for lunch at 13h00. Lunch is picnic style followed by a siesta. Paddling continues at 14h30/15h00.About 17h00 we should arrive at our overnight stop of Crocodile Rocks.

Day Two : 27 kms

A sunrise wake up call to tea/coffee and biscuits, after which canoeing continues for a couple of hours.Breakfast is around 09h30, and then we set off for the incredible scenery of the Zambezi Valley.There we will take Lunch and a siesta, during the hottest hours of the day, before paddling resumes at 15h00.Overnight at Twin Logs Island.

Day Three : 20 kms

After breakfast we will start paddling at 08h00 and continue until 10h30/11h00, where we will reach the pick up point at Chirundu for the return trip to Kariba or Kariba airport.The expected arrival time in Kariba is approx. 15h00.
